California National Parks
It is the variety and splendor of the natural scenery in California National Parks that most impresses visitors! Natural wonders are on display throughout the state, and visitors are struck by the contrasts and extremes they find in the landscapes. Rocky peaks that bear snow all year long are visible from arid deserts, where temperatures can reach 120°F or above. The state boasts the highest point in the continental US (Mt. Whitney in Sequoia NP), which is just 80 miles from the lowest point in the Western Hemisphere (Badwater Basin in Death Valley NP). In the mountains you'll find the world's tallest and oldest trees, as well as the world's sixth and seventh highest waterfalls.
The National Park Service maintains 23 units in California, which offer thousands of visitors a huge variety of adventures. You'll find historical and cultural experiences, as well as natural wonders, which cannot be seen anywhere else on the planet.

If you're going to be visiting several National Parks in California (or anywhere in the U.S.), you might want to consider the USGS "America the Beautiful" program. They have an annual pass that covers Entrance and Amenities Fees to hundreds of National Parks, National Forests and other Federal Recreational Lands for one low price. The pass covers the holder plus 3 accompanying adults and can be purchased online.
If you happen to be 62 or older, they also have a Senior Pass that is a real deal -- $10 for a lifetime pass (although the Senior Pass must be purchased in person, so they can verify your age). If you receive disability benefits, the Access Pass is free.
